Brazilian Waxing

A first-timer’s guide to getting waxed like a pro

Are you thinking of getting waxed for the first time? I’ve got some tips to make your first Brazilian appointment as quick and simple as possible, so you can overcome your fear and get waxed like a pro.

First (and most importantly), always make sure that you’re going to see a licensed aesthetician. Find someone who specializes in body waxing (don’t get waxed at the nail salon!) and make sure they have their license displayed at their work station.

Don’t schedule your appointment for the week of your period, or the few days leading up to it. Your skin is more sensitive due to the hormonal changes of your cycle, so it’s best to get waxed between periods if you can.

Skip the caffeine the day of your appointment. Coffee, tea, and energy drinks are great for keeping us awake, but they also heighten our sensitivity, which is not what we want when we’re going to get waxed. So save the Starbucks run for after your appointment.

Finally, you can take two ibuprofen an hour before your wax appointment if you’re nervous about the pain. The first visit is usually the most painful for people, but as long as you’re good about getting waxed every 3 to 4 weeks, your hair will start to thin out and you’ll experience less pain with each visit.
